Description
The Discorso was written in 1565 by Francesco De Vieri on the occasion of Francesco I de Medici's wedding; it is thus dedicated to the duke and his wife, Johanna of Austria. The work, conceived as a thorough discussion of philosophy and its disciplinary subdivisions, is very rich in Aristotelian references concerning all the fields of knowledge. The Discorso, witnessed by a manuscript (now Paris, BNF, It. 965) which might the dedicatory copy, was later printed and provided with a prefatory epistle to the readers which approaches and discusses the author's choice to write (and publish) such a text in the vernacular.Printed Editions
