<dcterms:description><![CDATA[The work is a compendium of meteorology very focused on the knowledge of winds and their nature. Aristotle's Meteorology undoubtedly plays a main role among Breventano's sources, which are nonetheless extremely heterogeneous (Hippocrates, Seneca, Plinius the Elder stand out among the classical texts the author refers to and quote from, but it is worth remarking that Breventano turns to medieval contributions as well - e.g. Avicenna and Guillaume de Conches). The treatise is conceived as a complete catalogue of winds which follows a more general introduction to the topic. ]]></dcterms:description>

The work, at least in the very first general remarks, draws on Aristotle's natural philosophy (e.g. the reference to De coelo et mundo, book 3, at f. 7v), but in the following sections it refers to several other sources such as Pliny the Elder and some classical poets (e.g. the references to Ovid - with passages translated into vernacular). The work appeared within a collection of Marta's Rime et prose which includes poems and three short treatises respectively on comedy (unfinished and mainly based on Aristotle), on translation and on the comparison between Frances Petrarch and Giovanni Della Casa - whose poems, commented by Sertorio Quattromani, follow in the 1616 Neapolitan edition of Marta's works. The Spositione della poetica covers the three first main sections of the treatise below Lodovico Castelvetro's division (the third is actually commented till chapter 7 - i.e. particella settima).
