Though recorded as a single work, the two manuscripts Florence, BNC, II.I.20-21 are note really related: the first one contains the so-called Proloqui nella Rettorica and an incomplete Ragionamento della poesia; the second manuscript is made up of 5 different sections: 1. Arrighetti's translation of Aristotle's Rhetoric, book I, followed by the same author's esposizione; 2. a summary of Aristotle's Rhetoric; 3. Arrighetti's 56 lectures on Rhetoric, book I; 4. Proloqui nella Rettorica (the same text in ms. II.I.20); 5. Proloqui nella Poetica (= complete version of the Ragionamento della poesia in ms. II.I.20). All these materials are related to the Accademia degli Svegliati of Pisa: the academy was founded in 1588 by some members of the Accademia degli Ardenti and merged into the Accademia dei Lunatici in 1621 (cf. Maylender 1929: V, 282 sgg.; Salvini 1965).

Description
An account of the resource
Bernardo Segni's translation of Aristotle's Poetics and Rhetoric were first printed in Florence in 1549, though the author had been working on them for several years, as confirmed by the manuscript (autograph) version of the Rhetoric now in the Marucelliana Library (ms. C.333, where the dedicatory epistle to the duke of Florence Cosimo I de Medici is dated 1546, instead of 1548 which is the date of the epistle in the first printed edition). Segni offers the readers an Italian translation of Aristotle with a commentary on the texts concerned (the commentary on Aristotle's Rhetoric appears in the Marucelliana ms. in a sort of preliminary and shorter version).
